Shehbaz Sharif Big Confesses: Indian BrahMos Missile Foiled Pakistan Planned

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's candid admission that India's BrahMos missile strikes foiled a major Pakistani military offensive marks one of the most significant acknowledgments in recent Indo-Pak defense history.

This revelation, made on May 29, 2025, offers deep insight into the effectiveness of India's preemptive strike stategy, the growing lethality of India's BrahMos missile arsenal, and a rare moment of transparency in Pakistan's tarditionally opeque military responses.

On the night of May 7-8, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) launched Operation Sindoor a multipronged military strike deep into Pakistani territory. BrahMos cruise missiles India's supersonic precision-strike weapon were launched at key Pakistani airbase and military installations including Nur Khan Airbase (Rawalpindi), Ammunition depots in POK and terror launch pads in Muzaffarabad and Balakot.

Shehbaz Sharif's Admission

While speaking at an international conference in Azerbaijan, PM Shehbaz Sharif made these startling admissions. Pakistan was preparing a retaliatory military strike to be excuted at 4:30 AM on May 10. The decision had full backing from the Pakistan Army and Air Force in coordination with the National Command Authority.

India's BrahMos Strike Preempted Pakistan

Sharif disclosed that India launched BrahMos missiles before Pakistan could act. He was informed at 2:30 AM by Army Chief General Asim Munir that Indian missiles had damaged multiple bases, grounding Pakistan's ability to carry out the offensive. Notably, the Nur Khan Airbase a strategic base for PAF operations and nuclear asset deployment was hit hard.

Before we could act, they (India) had struck. BrahMos missiles destroyed key runways and fuel depots. I was informed by Gen. Munir at 2:30 AM. We had no choice but to stand down.

India's Military Superiority Reinforced

India's ability to strike deep into Pakistani airspace without triggering an air war signals superior intelligence, targeting and timing. The use of BrahMos missile in precision strikes showcases India's doctrine of preemptive counterforce.

Pakistan's Strategic Dilemma

Pakistan's military was caught off-guard despite historically maintaining high alert after any Indian strike. The failure to execute their planned retaliation indicates a braekdown in early warming system or underestimation of Indian intent.

Sharif's public remarks suggest frustration with the Army's inability to respond. Typically, Pakistan's civilian leadership does not comment on military operations, especially failures. This may indicate a shift in civil-military power dynamics under the pressure of international isolation and economic distress.

Pakistan's Tone Softness

In the same speech, Sharif hinted at willingness to re-engage diplomatically with India. We must solve issues, including Kashmir, Through dialogue but terrorism must not become state policy again. Pakistan's Foreign Office later echoed this sentiment , a shift from aggressive posturing after past Indian strikes.

India's Strategic Messaging Succeeds

New Delhi refused to confirm the BrahMos strikes officially, sticking to strategic ambiguity. However, leaks and global media coverage built psychological pressure on Islamabad. India's position at the UN and global forums was strengthened portraying it as a victim of terror and a responsible regional power.

Admission is Historic

First time a sitting Pakistani PM has publicly admitted Indian missile strikes caused serious military setbacks. Reveals India's deterrence posture is credible the fear overwhelming retaliation discouraged Pakistani escalation. Breaks the tradition of denialism in Pakistani defense circles, which typically label such strikes as fabricated claims. Opens doors to possible de-escalation dialogue, especially with global pressure mounting on Pakistan amid its economic crisis.

What is Brahmos and Why It Stands Out Globally

Supersonic cruise missile (jointly developed by India's DRDO and Russia's NPOM), speed is 2.8-3.0 Mach (nearly 3 times the speed of sound), Range is Originally 290 km, now extended to 450 km, with a new variant tested to raech 800 km and mode of opertion are Land-to-land, Sea-to-Sea, Sea-to-land and Air-to-ground.
